Earthquake in Nepal - 3D modeling of Durbar Square in Kathmandu
Earthquake in Nepal, 3D modeling of downtown Kathmandu. Results obtained from 150 images taken from aerial video recorded by drone for damage assessment.
3D visualization of the Durbar Square district in Kathmandu
Following the powerful earthquake of April 25, 2015, drones intervened quickly to film the Kathmandu Durbar Square district in order to communicate and quickly publish the first aerial views of the disaster on Youtube.
After viewing these videos and selecting the quality rushes to be processed with the Metashape photogrammetry software, a three-dimensional modeling of the Durbar Square district was produced. Above, the result obtained makes it possible to immediately assess the damage to the cultural heritage of Kathmandu: some temples are invaded by mountains of rubble, bricks and beams. Others are completely destroyed.
Thus this 3D modeling published on day + 1 thanks to Sketchfab can now serve as a working basis for archaeologists and local authorities.
